Jason Castro Over the Rainbow - American Idol
April 8th, 2008 | by superhush |I used to live in Hawaii and I heard Israel Kamakawiwoʻole version of this song a lot. One of the most popular Hawaiian singers of all-time, Iz’s version of this song is a classic. I’ve never grown tired of it. One of my friends used it in her wedding (a friend from Hawaii no less). To make a long story short, Jason Castro had a lot to live up to in my eyes. I think he nailed it.
It’s hard to take something that so many people are familiar with and make it your own. In the beginning I thought that Jason was going to do a carbon copy of Iz, but he didn’t. His unique voice came through and it turned it into a great performance.

“IZ” did an amazing version of this song. Jason showed his respect for the song and the prior artist with his choice and his rendering of this haunting piece. Can Jason be any more perfect? He is the whole package. A unique artist! We are blessed to have him on Idol this year.
