American Idol - Neil Diamond

The last two weeks of Idol haven’t been that great in my opinion. When you’ve got the judges constantly throwing out that the performers sound “too Broadway” or are trying to sound too much like “Mariah Carey” - does it really make sense to have Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mariah Carey be mentors?

Neil Diamond, on the other hand, now here is a show I think could be great. The guy has a repertoire of fantastic songs, I’m a Believer, Kentucky Woman, Cherry, Cherry, Cracklin’ Rosie, the list goes on. It is going to be interesting to see who sings what and how they do it. I could really see David Cooke rocking America or Cracklin’ Rosie. And while I love Sweet Caroline, I hope that the Idols steer clear of it. Being a frequent karaoke bar attendee, I don’t think there is any song more stereotypical when it comes to karaoke than Sweet Caroline. Any Idol doing Sweet Caroline will be doing so at their own risk.
